Why are my nails ridged?

Hi. Are you talking about fingernails or toenails? Well either one can have a fungal infection but it is usually seen on the toenails and a fungal infection can do different things to your nail beds. Your best answer is of course see a Dr of podiatry that specializes in feet and nails. There is also many vitamins that our body needs but too much can do as much harm as too little so before you try the vitamins you should see a Dr and he/she can give you the correct diagnosis and the medications needed to cure this. It could be oral meds as well as topical meds used to treat this. It can be a time consuming task to completely cure this but in time if you follow the directions you will have good nails again. Go see a Dr for a definite diagnosis or try over the counter meds but they may not work and you will end up at the Dr anyway so i would start there. Good luck..Why are my nails ridged?
Probably a vitamin deficiency or a fungus.

  • My finger nails have ridges in them?

i hear it is from a light state of malnutrition.

any way i can help this?

i take 30 vitammins every day, so i cant be lacking. My finger nails have ridges in them?
You are probably a drug userMy finger nails have ridges in them?
Everyone has some sort of ridge in their nails. You can get them buffed out or you can do it yourself.

It doesn't sound like you are dealing with malnutrition - however, vitamins are only supplements. Be sure to eat properly too. :-)
Some people just have have ridges, esp. if you nails are thicker than average (like mine are). You can file and buff them smooth or just leave it be.
That many vitamins a day can harm you. see a doctor.
Maybe you need a good manicure. ';Sand'; them, buff them, and polish them.
file with a nail file DO NOT cut the nails.

place a small piece of garlic into a clear nail polish and apply once a week by the time you notice your nails will be beautiful. The whole garlic thing is a lil stinky but worth it! Believe me My nails are natural and many people always ask to touch them because they look fake
Be sure you are taking 30 mg zinc daily. Nail problems are often due to zinc deficiency.
I have them too but I dont worry about it.
i have them to its not to bad cuz its not going to kill you but i also heard its cuz of to much led so just eat good and if it doesnt go away it really doesnt matter
maybe it depends which way the ridges are. vertical with your fingers are usually a sign of poor nutrition. if you have horizontal ridges it's usually from and injury to your fingers
30 vitamins a day??? hypervitaminosis much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    um, 30 vitamins a day....ewww, yuck!

There are lots of things that can cause your fingernails to do this, like over use of certain drugs (and probably vitamins too I would guess) or viruses or diseases...see a doctor.
it might be from not enough iron in ur diet cause i have them too and i have some thing where my body doesnt have enough iron so i have to have nore than normal ppl so that might be it nexxt time u go to the doctor point that out.
I heard it was a sign of a thyroid problem.
I notice I get this from When i tear my nail, maybe it could be from that...
.If you are taking that many vitamins you could be poisoning your body with them, I don't know if this could be causing the problem with your nails, but its dangerous to over do vitamins, so I'd cut them down right away if I was you.
File them with a nail file.
I see like a lot of kids at my school with tan skin that have them.
I used to have that problem, but then I went to a nail salon and they put a liquid on it and the ridges dissapeared after awhile. You should go to a nail salon too.

I have ridged nails what can i do to get rid of them?

Ridges or (corruguations) in nails occur when nail growth is uneven, usually because of illness or injury. Gentle buffing can minimize ridges. Try a Ridge Filler to help level the nail surface, making shallow ridges and other imperfections practically disappear while conditioning with Calcium and Pro-Vitamin B5.

Hope this helps!I have ridged nails what can i do to get rid of them?
Have your iron checked. Sometimes its a sign of iron deficiency or stress.I have ridged nails what can i do to get rid of them?
There are some natural remedies that are really useful if you have brittle nails/ hair. Just go to your local health food shop and ask there. Also there are some creams that really help. I find Vaseline Intensive Care for hands and nails really good, and its really inexpensive too... also check the type of soaps that you use- whether it be washing up liquid, hand soaps etc., this may also be adding to your problem. Try getting ones that contain moisturiser. Hope this helps =)
    bite them
put your hands in a bowl filled with olive oil and rest them there for 5-10 minutes
I think they make a cream or something. You can get it at a pharmacy or wal-mart.
buy cream with more oil/fat than water in it.befor you go to bed,put the cream on your hands.aferwards you put gloves on and you`ll sleep with them.you have to it several times again.after 2 weeks you`ll see that your hand are getting better.

Ridges in just my thumb nails?

I have really bad ridges on both my thumb nails. There is a line going up the center of each thumb vertically with all these small lines and bumps horizontally. Does anyone know how I can fix them? Yes I do have the bad habit of picking the skin around my nails, which I have been trying to stop. They just look so ugly, I am very self conscious about them. If anyone knows how to get rid of them please help me.Ridges in just my thumb nails?
From experience I know that ridges in nails sometimes indicate a medical condition and you should speak with your doctor regarding this. It might be fungal. It could just be hereditary.Ridges in just my thumb nails?
Moisturize them. It could also indicate a vitamin deficiency.
This could be a lack of the right vitamins or something really serious. Or you could have nail fungus. Go to a doctor and take care of it. A free clinic or health department in your town should be of major help if you are low on funds, like most of us. Don't assume the worst or take for granted the best. Be brave and go to a nurse or REAL doctor and show them your concerns. Please....soon.
You can get rid of the ridges by buffing your nails.

Vitamin deficiancy? ridged nails + peeling cuticles?

I've heard that ridged fingernails and ragged, peeling cuticles is a vitamin deficiancy... so what vitamin are you missing if that's so?Vitamin deficiancy? ridged nails + peeling cuticles?
If you are concerned, I would recommend seeing your doctor. Lots of things can give you those symptoms, including Vitamin B deficiency.

What can I do about my ridged fingernails? Ridges go down my nails to the cuticles and they split and break!?

My cuticles look ragged even though I use handcream and my nails look short and all different sizes. I used to have nice long nails but can't get them to grow and they look horrible, especially in the winter. I've tried different nail strengthening polishes and I take the vitamins recommended for the condition.

Has anyone had this problem and sorted it out? I'd be really interested to know if you've used either a cream, polish, herbs or homeopathic remedy that has worked.

Thanx 4 your help. xWhat can I do about my ridged fingernails? Ridges go down my nails to the cuticles and they split and break!?
Nail Polish stops the oxygenation in the nail making them yellow, buff and polish naturally, maybe its and the lack of Iron in your diet, but thats a guess go to a diet doctor and find that one out.

To make them grow stronger eat Jelly (Jell-o if American) because of the gelatin it will help with the strength, also cut and file down (this helps to thicken and strengthen) for a while until your nails are back to how they one were!

All the Best. What can I do about my ridged fingernails? Ridges go down my nails to the cuticles and they split and break!?
It does sound like some form of vitamin deficiency but popping pills is not the answer food is the best way of providing vitamins change your diet to obtain the vitamins you need but the change wont be instant as nails grow about a millimetre a week so it could be four months before your nails are back to their former glory
ridges in your nails is often caused by deficiencies in vitamins and calcium.

Try inproving your diet and dont paint your nails unless its with a protector. Keep them short until the problem is solved. Long nails with ridges in them look awful so keep them shorter.
gentle buffing from cuticle to tip of nail should help
i use nutra nail with green tea twice a week i re due them
